The brewery takes its inspiration from Keash, a small area near Ballymote steeped in Irish folklore and mythology. Nearby lies a group of caves said to possess otherworldly qualities and serve as the dwelling place of supernatural beings. Among the legends tied to these caves is the tale of Fionn McCumhail’s capture and imprisonment by the three hags of the Tuatha Dé Danann. One of these hags, known as the White Hag, was a shape-shifting witchlike figure capable of taking on any form. It’s this spellbinding mythology that fuels the brewery’s spirit and creativity!
In late 2013, a passionate and diverse team came together with a bold vision: to craft an innovative and ambitious brewery in Sligo, Ireland. Drawing on a mix of talents and backgrounds from across two continents, they joined forces to create The White Hag – proudly becoming Sligo’s first brewery in over a century.
